AMY OLIVAS IS ON FIRE IN BIKINI & EVENING GOWN!
Interview By Ben Yosef | Michael Brooks Photography
Amy Olivas was one of the most exciting newcomers to hit the IPL stage during the 2019 season. Competing in just two contests Amy managed to place Top 5 in every class she entered. Including 1st place wins in Bikini Novice Class B and Evening Gown Novice at the 2019 IPL SoCal Pro/Am. She would also go on to place a very respectable 2nd in Bikini Open and earn her IPL Evening Gown Pro Card at APEX IV.
BEN YOSEF: Congrats on an amazing 2019 season! How are you feeling about all that you accomplished?
AMY OLIVAS: Thank you! I am still in shock about my first year with the IPL. I went into this just wanting to do my first show, then crossing it off my bucket list. I didn’t realize I was going to get hooked after my first show. I am very proud of myself for my accomplishments this year.
BEN: Your first IPL contest was the SoCal Pro/AM in September. For that contest you entered Bikini and Evening Gown. Why did you choose these two divisions?
AMY: I started out only wanting to do Bikini because that’s the only division I knew about at the time. After I started my prep, and while looking into the IPL, I realized there are so many divisions! I chose Evening Gown because what girl doesn’t like to throw on a dress and be elegant? I look forward to doing more divisions in the future.
BEN: So awesome. Do you have a favorite between Bikini and Evening Gown? Also, what other divisions are you planning on entering in the future?
“I ALWAYS FEEL BEAUTIFUL IN MY BIKINI AND EVENING GOWN WHEN I AM ON STAGE.”
AMY: I can’t say I love one more than the other between Bikini and Evening Gown. I love them both because they are each different with posing. I always feel beautiful in my bikini and evening gown when I am on stage. In the future, I hope to do Fitness Angels and Sports Model or Athletic.
BEN: When training in the gym for Bikini and Evening Gown do you do anything differently for each? Or is it just a matter of stage presentation for you?
AMY: I train the same for both. However, when I am working on my posing with Tawnya Cline, it’s different posing and presentation for Bikini and Evening Gown.
BEN: You made such a big impact on the IPL stage in just two contests in your first year. What do you attribute your success to?
AMY: I went into this blindly. I didn’t know what to expect. My goal was to do the best I can and give it my all. I just listened to everything my coach Tawnya Cline said to do. Tawnya is the reason for my success.
BEN: Your second and final contest of the season was APEX in October. Congratulations on qualifying to compete there! You seem to have improved noticeably from the month prior. What was your focus as you headed into APEX and what did you change in your preparation since your first show?
”I AM CURRENTLY GETTING READY FOR THE ARIZONA SHOW IN MAY. I PLAN ON DOING MORE SHOWS THIS YEAR THAN LAST YEAR.”
AMY: Heading into APEX I reviewed the judges score cards and focused on those areas that needed improvement. I also felt more comfortable being on stage this time around. I kept everything the same with a few extra posing classes before APEX.
BEN: Well, it definitely paid off as you were able to snag that Evening Gown Pro Card at APEX. You are an exciting competitor and I look forward to seeing you back on the IPL stage! What’s next for you?
AMY: Thank you! I am so excited for this year! I love the IPL and all the encouraging competitors. It’s made for an awesome experience so far. I am currently getting ready for the Arizona show in May. I plan on doing more shows this year than last year. NMI
