HEATHER FOLEY MAKES A BIG IMPRESSION IN CALI!
Interview By Ben Yosef | Michael Brooks Photography
First time competitor, Heather Foley was one of the most standout athletes at the 2018 3RD Annual IPL California Championship on May 5th in Sacramento California. At this contest, Heather placed a respectable 2nd in Bikini Mommas (1 To 3), 5th in Bikini Open (Class A) and 2nd in Women’s Sports Model Open.
True, she did not walk away with any first place wins, but she certainly impressed the heck out of the judging panel and audience alike with her physique and presentation. I would imagine that it is only a matter of time until Heather finds herself in the number one spot.
BEN YOSEF: Heather! Congrats on your showing at the Cali Championship! You were awesome! How are you feeling about the show?
“I FEEL THE MOST ‘ME’ WHEN I AM ON STAGE…”
HEATHER FOLEY: Hi Ben! Thank you so much. I had an absolute blast. Being a former competitive dancer, I honestly couldn’t wait to get back on stage and, wow! I was so happy I did. I feel the most ME when I am on stage and truly loved working towards an end goal and giving it my all. It was an incredible experience.
BY: Well, you surely made a big impression on the judging panel as well as the crowd. Definitely a crowd favorite! [laughs] Was this your first Bikini competition?
HF: Thank you! This was my first competition.
BY: You ended up placing 2nd in Bikini Mommas (1 to 3) as well as 5th in Bikini Open (Class A). There was definitely some tough competition, especially in the Open. How old is your child? Do you have more than one? And, what was it like going up against the other Bikini girls at the show?
HF: My daughter Elly was 13 months on the day of the show. She is my first and only at this point, and certainly a big motivation to stick with the prep! I’m glad I chose Bikini Mommas first. It meant a lot to me to get on stage to show other mommas what our bodies are capable of after having a baby! So, although I was a bit nervous, I was honored to step on stage for that reason. Bikini Open was much more intimidating to me. I was shocked and excited to place in that category. The competition was tough for sure!
BY: You really rocked it in Sports Model as well. You totally OWNED your fencing theme. Do you have a background in fencing?
“…FOR ME PERSONALLY, THE PERFORMANCE PIECE WAS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THIS.”
HF: Thank you! I had a blast. I have no background in fencing. I honestly researched some fencing techniques and pieced some moves together and gave all my energy into my performance.
BY: Ha! I love it! You definitely had skills. It totally looked like you knew what you were doing! In each division that you competed in, you had some of the highest Posing/Presentation and Model Walk scores of your class. You really stood out. What tips or advice would you give to competitors out there who may be struggling in these areas?
HF: Thank you! I was very pleased with the outcome and how I felt on stage. My biggest advice would be practice, practice, practice! Both with and then without a mirror, so you can see what you are doing and get the muscle memory down to feel confident on stage.
I felt more comfortable in those categories because I knew, for me personally, the performance piece was the most exciting part of this. When it comes to the day of the show I was told to just have fun and bring your best to the stage. At that point, you cannot change anything other than how your present yourself. So I definitely took that to heart, tried to shake off the nerves and just go for it.
BY: Well, you are certainly an exciting competitor. And, it’s really awesome having you in the IPL family. When will we see you back on the IPL stage?
HF: It is such a great community, I’m honored to be a part of the IPL family! I plan to compete again this fall!
