Kristen Perez delivered a very impressive package to the IPL Grand Prix Pro last October in Phoenix, AZ. Considering that this was her Pro Bikini debut, makes it even more significant. AND, holding her own against 4X Pro Bikini Champion Naia Day, secured Perez as a serious threat in the division.

Then, Perez would take aim at Pro status in yet another division at the GP. Fitness Angels. In Fitness Angels Open, Perez was amazing, leading her to winning three of the six scored categories. Muscularity, Symmetry and Conditioning. And with that, Kristen Perez became the IPL’s newest Fitness Angels Pro.

BEN YOSEF: Kristen! Congrats on an amazing showing at the Grand Prix last October. You looked really awesome. I was super impressed with how you came in. How are you feeling about what you brought to that show? Especially considering it was your Pro Debut…

KRISTEN PEREZ: Hi, Ben! Thank you so much! I felt great! Overall, I was very pleased with how I came in. 2017 was a very challenging year for me, with numerous challenges and health problems throughout the year. I actually thought I may not make it to stage, but my training with Fitness Excelsior helped keep me grounded and I used the year to focus on muscle growth. It definitely was the fullest and fittest I have been since I started competing.

YOSEF: Well, I am glad you did make it to the show. You were really inspiring. So, one of the most exciting things about that Pro class is how closely you compared to 4X IPL Pro Bikini Champion, Naia Day. And, at the time of the Grand Prix, Naia was the reigning IPL APEX Pro Bikini Champ. You actually beat her out in the Muscularity round, and came pretty close in all the others. How were you feeling heading into the Grand Prix, knowing you would be going up against Naia?

“TO BE THE BEST, YOU GOTTA GO UP AGAINST THE BEST. AND I FEEL THAT WAS 100% THE CASE.”

PEREZ: Surprisingly, I actually didn’t know who was in the Pro category ‘til the night of check-in! Both Naia and Aurore are amazing competitors, who I greatly admire and quite frankly was a bit intimidated to face off with.

Naia is such an amazing spirit, and I knew she was going to bring, and force me to bring my best, which I love! To be the best, you gotta go up against the best. And I feel that was 100% the case.

YOSEF: Well, you definitely more than held your own against the best! I remember specifically thinking, when the Pro lineup came out… ”Holy sh*t, Kristen Perez could take this.” [laughs]

You also had a pretty big day in Amateur Fitness Angels Open, where you were also phenomenal. And, you took the win and Pro Card there. And, this was your first time competing in this division! How are you feeling about your performance in Angels, and did you do anything differently than Bikini in your prep for this division?

“I LOVED FITNESS ANGELS! THAT CATEGORY WAS MADE FOR ME.” [LAUGHS]

PEREZ: It was exciting! Getting my Bikini Pro Card was a huge accomplishment, and I knew I had to bring a new package for my Pro Debut!

I LOVED Fitness Angels! That category was made for me. [laughs] I love the pageantry and extra performance it allows on stage!

My prep was consistent. This prep overall was gradual, as I trained for nine months before really getting into it and preparing for the show. My focus was my Pro Debut, but I knew I wanted to try something new and this was the perfect category.

YOSEF: Well, you definitely rocked it in AZ! What is next for you, and when will we see you back on the IPL stage?

“I WILL BE BACK ON MAY 5TH AT THE 3RD ANNUAL CALIFORNIA CHAMPIONSHIP IN SACRAMENTO!”

PEREZ: Thank you! I loved the experience, and the venue! So much fun! I have a lot of fun things in the works, which I am looking forward to in 2018. As far the IPL stage, I will be back on May 5th at the 3rd Annual California Championship in Sacramento! I am looking to make my Fitness Angels Pro debut, hit Pro Bikini again and hopefully lock down that Sports Model Pro Card once and for all! NMI
